When it was announced that Barack Obama would come to the Raleigh, NC area to speak, the NC State Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) were on alert. YAL quickly got together their team and employed tactics taught in the Leadership Institute's Youth Leadership School.

They quickly put together a mock "program" for President Obama's speech that outlined different failings of the Obama administration. They also made witty posters which were prominently displayed outside of Reynolds Coliseum for all of the attendees to see.

Just five months after the NC State Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) chapter members deligently collected over 2,300 signatures to bring Ron Paul to campus, he was standing before a crowd of over 1,000 to discuss his newest book, Liberty Defined.   His speech can be viewed here.

Recently, Campus Reform covered the story of the unnecessary programs cut from the UNC system in order to curtail the budget cuts facing the UNC system.

In light of the current situation on UNC campuses, the John W. Pope Center for Higher Education came to the same conclusion I did: the Board of Governors are off to a great start, but in order to restore financial stability and quality higher education institutions more needs to be done.

After the student government increased student fees two years in a row, the University's Board of Trustees approved a proposal to increase tuition by hundreds of dollars should the University's funding be further cut by the state. The proposal suggests a tuition increase of $300 for in-state undergraduate students and $600 for out-of-state and graduate students as a result of expected state budget cuts.

Kelly Hook, Student Body President said:

"Currently they are projecting between a 10 to 15 percent budget cut, so tuition may be increas

Freedom of Expression Under Attack

Dr. Mike Adams said it best when he said, "the first amendment exists to make you feel uncomfortable." Throughout your lifetime, you are going to hear viewpoints that offend you and that you don't agree with.

But the left disagrees.

Bring Ron Paul to NC State

The North Carolina State University Young Americans for Liberty (NCSU YAL) has started the semester off strong.

On September 25-26, NCSU YAL was represented at the Leadership Institute's Youth Leadership School at Wake Forest University.  There the members learned valuable techniques that they immediately began implementing when they got back to campus.

For the past few days, members of the NCSU YAL have been a constant presence on campus gathering signatures as part of a petition to bring Representative Ron Paul to their campus.  So far, the group has managed to obtain more than 1,600 signatures.

President of NCSU YAL, Rob Bryan told Campus Reform:

So far we have seen a lot of positive support for our event and are excited about getting NCSU politically active. The group started with the goal of obtaining 800 signatures but by the end of the week our chapter managed to collect over 1600 signatures with the help of our NC YAL network.

UNC Backs Down on Abortion Coverage

A little public attention often gets a big reaction from university officials, as conservative activists with a cause know.

As campus reformer David Hazi previously reported, the UNC system forced students to purchase health insurance, beginning in the 2010-2011 school year. Students not enrolled in another insurance plan would have to buy a state-selected policy from Pearce & Pearce, Inc.

But pro-life students soon realized something important: Pearce & Pearce's public plan covers $500 toward elective abortions and has 80% PPO coverage for elective abortions. Students paying for the plan -- at a hefty $744 annually -- would be subsidizing abortions, regardless of whether they were pro-life.
