#92 North Carolina State University

aprevette

North Carolina State University (NC State) was founded as a land grant college in 1887 in Raleigh, North Carolina. NCSU is known for its programs in agriculture, engineering, and textiles -- as well as the NC State Wolfpack athletic teams. Today NC State is the largest university in North Carolina with more than 33,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 faculty members.

Campus Life

Of the nine political groups on campus, five are left-leaning and four are right-leaning.

The liberal groups are the College Democrats, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Student Worker Alliance, VOX (Voices for Planned Parenthood), and the Roosevelt Institution at NC State. The Roosevelt Institution is part of a national network of student groups that research, write, and promote policy proposals. Liberals likely targeted NC State because the main campus is just blocks away from the state legislature.

The four conservative groups are the College Republicans, College Libertarians, Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, and the Network of Enlightened Women (NeW), which is a book club and educational group for conservative women. The underlined groups are affiliated with CampusReform.org's Campus Leadership Program, which provides students with advice, assistance, and support.

Students Vote Against Student Fee Increase

aprevette

Students rejected a fee increase to pay for unnecessary renovations to a new building this week at North Carolina State University.

If approved, student fees, which now stand at about $1,500, would have increased by $83 next year and by $185 in the 2011-12 school year, $275 in the 2012-13 school year, and by $290 in the 2013-14 school year when the project would be completed.
